Assistant Professor in Power Engineering

 

Job Description

We are seeking for an innovative and visionary Assistant Professor in the field of Power Engineering with strong interest in industrial applications and cooperation for the campus in Sønderborg.

The Centre for Industrial Electronics has currently approximately 30 faculty members including senior (full and associate professors), junior (assistant professors and Post Docs), PhDs and support staff. The position involves research, professional development, research education, teaching, including exams, supervision, and assessment work. A candidate will be expected to teach and supervise PhD students and undergraduate students, as well as to maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure appropriate research funding. On this basis, we strive for unique and excellent value in research, innovation, and education.

 

Job description

 

Conducting research in the field of electrical engineering with a focus on control of microgrids

Planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partners.

Publishing and presenting research outputs at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.

Establishing and running industrial collaborations with leading actors in the field.

Teaching in the field of electrical engineering

Supervision of PhD, Master, and Bachelor students

Profile and requirements

 

You have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields.

You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the field.

You are interested in a longer-term commitment to a growing research group, and you are willing to work in close cooperation with industry.

You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.

A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.

You are a team player and have strong communication skills.

You have experience in one or more of the following fields:

1. Power management of microgrids

 

2. Advanced control methods for AC, DC, and hybrid AC/DC microgrids

 

3. Decentralized, centralized, and hierarchical control methods

 

4. Simulation of converter-dominant systems in MATLAB, PSIM, and PLECS

 

5. Voltage balancing circuits of supercapacitors

 

Please note: the Lecturer Training Programme  (an individually planned in-service teacher training programme for university teachers) is mandatory for newly appointed assistant professors at SDU. The Lecturer Training Programme is also offered to associate or full professors who do not have any university training education. If an applicant completed a course similar to the Lecturer Training Programme, it is possible to apply for an exemption from the programme

Conditions of employment

 

Appointment as assistant professor is temporary and for an initial 3-year period.

 

The preferred starting date is from June 1, 2025, and will be agreed upon with the successful candidate.

 

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.  Further information on salary and taxation.

 

The person employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial assessment, be exempted from time registration, also known as a self-organiser.

 

Employment as assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level at the time of employment.
