Professorship in “Cognitive Robotics“ (W3)

At the Technische Universität Ilmenau, starting in the summer semester 2026, the following professorship is to be filled at the Department of Computer Science and Automation:

“Cognitive Robotics“ (W3)

We are looking for an outstanding researcher with international recognition and broad methodological expertise and excellent didactic abilities. The future holder of the position should represent the field of cognitive robotics, i.e., the development of intelligent behaviors in actively learning, mobile, and interactive robotic systems, in research and teaching at the Department of Computer Science and Automation as well as in interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments.

We welcome applications from scientists with research experience on methodological and application-oriented aspects of information processing and learning on mobile robot systems in several of the following areas:

• Human perception and human-robot interaction
• Robot navigation and situational awareness
• Self-learning methods in robotics
• Collaborative robotics
• Integration of foundation models into robotics

As research and application platforms, wheeled, humanoid, or multi-legged robots should serve that can be used, among others, in domestic, clinical or industrial environments.

In addition to excellent research, teaching of undergraduate and graduate level courses in German and English-language programs of the department is expected as well as for other bachelor’s and master’s engineering degree programs across the university. The future holder of the position should actively participate in academic self-administration.
