Job description

Education and research on the following fields in the research area of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, and management of the Department affairs of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering.

  • Research and education on basic theories of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, laboratory experiments, model tests, and numerical analysis, and their advancement.
  • Research and education on the mechanical behavior and stability problems of geotechnical structures under various
  • loads and on the interaction between ground and structures.
  • Development of interdisciplinary fields beyond the area of expertise, and research and education in advanced collaborationwith other fields
  • Lecture responsibilities of “Soil Mechanics I and Exercises”,“Soil Mechanics II and Exercises”, “Experiments on Soil
  • Mechanics and Exercises”, “Soil Mechanics I and Exercises(ICP)”, “Soil Mechanics II and Exercises (ICP)” and
  • Mathematics and Physics for engineering fundamental classes at Undergraduate School of Civil, Environmental and Resources
  • Engineering, Faculty of Engineering
  • Lecture responsibilities of “Geomechanics”, “Computational Geotechnics” and “Exercise on Project Planning” at the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering,Graduate School of Engineering.

Requirements

A successful candidate has

  • a degree of either PhD or Doctor of Engineering or Science in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering or related academic fields,
  • outstanding achievements and distinguished research records in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, or related fields. And,outstanding ability to conduct research in this field,
  • ability to teach specialized courses in English and supervise graduate students' research,
  • Excellent ability in teaching and research guidance on soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering in the Graduate School of Engineering and the School of Engineering.

Business hours

Full-time employment in a discretionary work system, based on 7 hours, 45 minutes (8:30-17:15 work schedule with a one-hour break) per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week.

Days off: Saturday, Sunday, national holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays, Foundation Day, and summer vacation.

  • Reprints or copies of five major papers representing the candidates’ research,
  • A concise personal statement in about 3,000 words describing the candidate’s research achievements. Each research topic should be accompanied by a list of major papers,
  • Awards (year of award and description),
  • Status of acquisition of competitive research funds such as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research or others in the last 10 years (for the representative only),
  • A concise personal statement in about 3,000 words describing the candidate’s future vision for research and education after the assignment in this position (Research topic, research objectives, research preparation status, research plan and methods, etc), and
  • A list of two references with contact information to whom the University can ask for opinions on the research and education experiences of the candidate.

Screening

The Selection Committee qualifies all candidates, based on the documents submitted. An interview may be scheduled, if necessary, and will be informed of to selected interviews. Unfortunately, no traveling allowance will be provided to any of the interviewees. The final decision will be made by all professoriate members in the Departments of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and Urban Management Engineering.
