Associate professor Geotechnical Engineering

Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of The Built Environment, a position as Associate Professor in Geotechnical Engineering is open for appointment from 1 October 2021 or soon hereafter. The position is located in Aalborg.

Job description

The Department of the Built Environment is Denmark's largest department in construction, civil engineering and the built environment. The research at the Department of the Built Environment is rooted in the field of engineering, also contains important and comprehensive elements from the social sciences and the humanities.

This allows us to research, advise and educate a holistic approach to the complex issues of the urban, residential and construction area. The Department of the Built Environment will provide knowledge so that we can help solve some of society's biggest challenges, such as the climate crisis, population development, resource scarcity and urbanization.

Research areas will be within the areas Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering and Offshore Foundation. The applicant must have a strong research background in offshore foundation of wind turbines, constitutive models and numerical modelling. In addition, experience in soil dynamics, physical modelling, analyzing large-scale model-test and centrifuges test, with emphasis on soil structure interacting is expected.

Furthermore, expertise in earthquake engineering and modelling dynamically loaded structures is of high interest. The position involves participation in research projects in these areas. Furthermore, the position involves supervision in interdisciplinary projects. The person appointed must therefore be able to cover various aspects of civil engineering.

Teaching will primarily be in Geotechnic, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organizations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.
