The University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of aerospace engineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in aerospace engineering or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.

We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths Preference will be given to those applicants whose teaching interests extend to the robotics discipline. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

UTIAS has recently expanded its professional master’s program which leads to the award of the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree. This is primarily a coursework program (with an optional project component).

We are seeking an individual whose teaching responsibilities would primarily be focused on M.Eng. students. In particular, the development of specialized graduate courses in various areas of aerospace engineering with this group in mind is of interest. Since a significant part of our graduate curriculum includes robotics courses, candidates whose interests extend to robotics engineering would be at an advantage.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Applicants must have, or be eligible for, registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. This is important as faculty members teaching design courses to undergraduate students must be Professional Engineers for program accreditation as set out by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. About the Institute for Aerospace Studies

UTIAS is an institute within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. It has a long tradition of excellence in Aerospace and Robotics Engineering education and research. UTIAS is responsible for much of the undergraduate teaching in the Aerospace and Robotics Majors of the Engineering Science program.

UTIAS is also home to graduate programs leading to the degrees of M.Eng., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D., and has strong connections (through its faculty members) with the Canadian aerospace industry including Bombardier Aerospace, Pratt and Whitney Canada, and MDA.
