The Role

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a new Lecturer in Chemical Engineering. The School of Engineering is widely recognised for the quality of its teaching, research and industry engagement. As a School that strives to provide an outstanding educational experience, rooted in strong engineering disciplines, this position provides a significant opportunity for a highly motivated and productive individual to develop his/her academic career, within a supportive and successful environment.

Chemical Engineering is one of the core disciplines of the School with multidisciplinary expertise that spans the sciences and engineering. We welcome applicants to join our vibrant academic community that is truly pushing the teaching and research boundaries of fundamental and applied chemical engineering into new and exciting applications such as the future of energy, sustainability, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and process design.

Expertise in your field should be matched by a strong research record, or potential to develop into an independent researcher of international quality, that builds on our strengths in advanced materials, chemical reaction, catalysis, electrochemical engineering, or the design and development of novel process technologies. However, the principal criteria will be research and teaching quality, regardless of research area.

You will have growing international visibility, and contribute to the full spectrum of academic activities, including research, teaching and leadership, in a School that is committed to creating an inclusive environment, where staff and students are valued and respected and have equal opportunities to succeed.

We believe that a rich mix of people with different backgrounds will help us to create a Discipline in which intellectually ambitious academics will want to work and create a collegiate environment. Our diverse staff attracts a broad range of bright, active and engaged students.

Specifically, a greater diversity in our staff will:

  • bring new ideas and different perspectives to both teaching and research;
  • refresh our engagement and challenge our thinking;
  • enhance our collegiate experience and make us a more effective team;
  • provide more diverse role models, attract a wider range of students and enhance our pastoral care.

We are keen to attract applicants who:

  • will actively contribute to all aspects of the Discipline, and the School;
  • have a strategic approach and see a wide range of options in their own work and the work of the   School;
  • are enthusiastic and committed to new ventures and innovations in teaching.

All applicants who fulfil the criteria are welcome. We are keen to offer opportunities, where possible, to people from groups who are currently underrepresented, such as women and individuals from black or Asian backgrounds. All applications will be considered on the merits, experience and qualifications of the candidate as these relate to the requirements and specifications of the post.
