Jinhua Polytechnic Wintec International College

This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of a very exciting and innovative international education project. Wintec is employing staff to teach.

The Jinhua Polytechnic Wintec International College is an academic institution operated and managed Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in New Zealand. The international college aims to introduce quality international education resources, to promote thecomplementary advantages of China-NZ teaching and learning, to contribute to the Zhejiang region’s social and economic development, and to train technical personnel with an international perspective.

The international college offers IT and Engineering qualifications at diploma level taught by both Wintec and Jinhua staff.Students will receive the Jinhua Polytechnic qualifications as follows:

  • Diploma in Computer Networking Technology
  • Diploma in Technology of Computer Applications
  • Diploma in Applied Electronic Technology
  • Diploma in Mould Design and Manufacturing
  • Diploma in Architectural Engineering Technology

On completion of this study and the fulfilment of requirements, students can also be awarded the following qualifications from Wintec:

  • NZQF Diploma in Networking
  • NZQF Diploma in Computer Applications
  • NZQF Diploma in Engineering (Three Strands: Electrical, Civil and Mechanical)
  • Diploma in Digital Media and Design

Qualifications will continue to be added over time to meet the business needs for the Zhejiang region.

Role Purpose

  • To ensure successful student outcomes by using student-centred teaching and creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • To teach collaboratively to deliver an Engineering programme at Jinhua Polytechnic Wintec International College.
  • To ensure students are able to understand and work effectively with the Mechanical Engineering content delivered in English.
  • To assist with the development of the Mechanical Engineering programme, including classroom materials, lesson plans, assessments, etc.
  • To contribute positively and appropriately as a member of the international college teaching team.

Reports to The Manager: Jinhua with functional guidance provided by the Wintec Programme Coordinator at Jinhua.


  • The salary is expected to be within the range of NZ$60,000 to NZ$78,000 per annum.
  • Basic accommodation is provided by Jinhua Polytechnic

  • One economy class return flight to the home country for each year worked

Hours: up to 24 teaching hours per week, 37.5 work hours per week

Teaching Quality: Facilitating Learning

  • Applies a variety of student-centred teaching and learning strategies to ensure students success.
  • Delivers high quality learning experiences using a variety of technology and student-centred teaching methods providing for individual learning needs, and provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
  • Develops and maintains rapport and a supportive relationship with learners by ensuring a positive and engaging teaching and learning environment.

Planning and Preparation

  • Adapts the teaching material to make it accessible for English as a second language learners.
  • Plans and prepares in advance current teaching resources, lesson plans, learning outcomes, effective student-centred delivery methods and effective assessment methods etc., for all modules.
  • Responds to student feedback and peer/manager observation reports by reviewing and updating teaching and teaching resources to ensure ongoing improvement.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge in subject area and utilises this knowledge in course material. Shares knowledge with colleagues.

Curriculum Development

  • Assists with the development of the Engineering teaching materials for Wintec at the college.
  • Ensures that there is constructive alignment between the learning outcomes, learning activities and assessments within the Engineering programme.
  • Participates in the development and facilitation of blended learning.

Assessment of student learning

  • Works from Wintec’s module descriptors to apply a variety of formative and summative assessment tools that are valid, sufficient,fair and transparent.
  • Informs students of assessment criteria and scheduling in a timely manner.
  • Ensures students receive constructive feedback on their progress, and participates in moderation activities with Wintec’s Centre for Engineering and Industrial Design.

Classroom Management

  • Cultivates a motivated and energetic learning environment that is supportive of all students.
  • Has clearly defined classroom guidelines in place for the students

Academic Administration

  • Fulfils the requirements of Wintec’s systems, practices and legislative obligations by ensuring administrative responsibilities, internal and external moderation, monitoring and review requirements are completed.
  • Enters academic results into the relevant systems for Jinhua.


  • Maintains up to date knowledge in subject area and utilises this knowledge in course material. Shares knowledge and learnings regularly with colleagues.
  • Regularly engages in critical reflection of own teaching practice using formal and informal feedback and self-reflection in order to improve practice.

Competency Specification

Education / Training

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering


  • Ideally two years’ Mechanical engineering teaching experience at a tertiary level.
  • Two to three years’ recent industry experience in mechanical engineering field is preferred.
  • Experience with young Chinese adult learners with low-level English skills.
  • Experience teaching and preparing classroom materials for a student-centred teaching approach.

Typical Knowledge,Skills and Attributes

  • Good knowledge in AutoCAD or Solidworks
  • Ability to speak Mandarin an advantage.

Highest Academic Qualification: Original document required; Also needs to be authenticated by the country where the qualification was conferred.

Non-criminal Record: Original document required; Also needs to be authenticated by country of issuance.

Related teaching experience: Minimum 2 years’ Mechanical engineering teaching experience required; Employment verification letter in a letterhead and signed by either previous or current employer is compulsory.

Medical check report: A clear medical check report from a designated Chinese or overseas hospital / medical clinic is required.
