Head of Department at the Department of Computer Technology and Computational Engineering

About the position

The Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (IVT) holds a vacancy as Head of Department at the Department of Computer Technology and Computational Oriented Engineering (IDBI). We are looking for a committed leader who can further develop and lead the institute's research, education, innovation and dissemination activities. The head of the department will be part of the overall management group at the faculty.

The IVT faculty has five institutes with a total of approx. 1350 students and approx. 165 man-years. The primary tasks of the faculty are research, teaching, dissemination and innovation. We have a broad research collaboration with a number of research communities locally, nationally and internationally.

The Department of Computer Technology and Computational Engineering has over 40 employees, including 9 professors. The institute has its main emphasis in computer software development, but is also strong in calculations and applied mathematics. The institute has three research groups that provide research at high national and international level in collaboration with national and foreign partners.

The institute aims to become an international leader in the combination of geometric modeling and artificial intelligence, but has a challenge in providing external funding for the investments. The institute also works extensively with new teaching methods, active, problem-based, mixed-learning, reverse classroom, multi-campus teaching, streaming and new technologies. One of the challenges associated with this is to facilitate, obtain funding for experimentation and to work in a scientific way, quantifying and documenting. There are currently 12 PhD students at the institute. An important task is to work to increase this number and to strengthen the guidance.

In addition to the responsibility for their bachelor's and master's degree programs, the institute has also had a special responsibility for online support for all the bachelor's programs, as well as the PhD education at the entire faculty. The institute's academic profile is highly sought after today and therefore creates many opportunities and it also gives great expectations of what the head of department can achieve.

Research areas at the Department of Computer Technology and Computational Engineering

The Institute's research activities are organized into three research groups:

The group conducts research in mathematical and geometric modeling, numerical simulations, programming and visualization, as well as applications related to these. The main focus is geometric modeling with spline theory, blending-splines and especially Expo Rational B-splines (ERBS), as well as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the link between AI and geometry.

Artificial intelligence:

The group conducts research in all aspects of artificial intelligence, including probabilistic and biologically inspired methods, big data, data mining, machine learning, search methods, information integration and semantic web, as well as applications in bioinformatics, engineering, social informatics and related fields.

Members work on homogenization theory and physical application, including fiber-reinforced materials, nano-materials, composites, lightweight structures and fluid streams. Current uses:

Mathematics, modeling of composite materials and cellular structures

Mathematical models for heat conduction in fiber composites, fluid flow in porous media and homogenization theory

Partial differential equations are an important area

Educational programs at the institute

The institute offers education at bachelor, master and PhD level, and is responsible for a bachelor's program in engineering; computer engineering at 2 study sites, one year in computer engineering for engineering / civil engineers, and two master's programs (civil engineering) in Computer / IT and Engineering Design respectively. At PhD level, the fellows are associated with the institute's research groups. The bachelor's program is also offered as a web-supported study.
