Job description:

The project attacks how we can use machine learning to improve the memory system in computers. The project will use machine learning both as a tool to optimize the development of the system (offline) and to improve dynamic behavior (online). The postdoctoral service is part of the Automating System SpeSific Model-Based Learning (ASSEMBLE) project. In this project, researchers in machine learning, automatic control, compiler and computer architecture collaborate to develop new tools that support the use of machine learning in new areas.

The postdoctoral practitioner will work with machine learning experts and researchers to understand how to apply and integrate "Probabilistic Programming" and neural networks to improve the memory systems of computers. Expected results are new ways to use such tools for offline as well as online optimization of data placement in the memory system. The candidate is expected to take an active part in the supervision of doctoral students. More information about ASSEMBLE can be found at: .

The position is two years and may include teaching in Swedish or English depending on availability and the candidate's interests.


  • The candidate must have a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctorate degree, in computer science or another area relevant to the subject. The degree must have been completed no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the degree may be older than three years. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions etc.
  • We are looking for a candidate with expertise in computer architecture and / or memory systems research. The applicant must prove high self-motivation in the application. The applicant must be able to work well in groups, be good at giving and receiving constructive criticism and have a strong ability for critical thinking and structured work. These competencies are as important as the technical qualifications.
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English is a requirement.

Desirable / other qualifications:

  • Experience in machine learning is a big advantage, but not a requirement because we have experts in the project that can help the candidate learn what is needed.
