In the Department of Theoretical Computer Science (TCS), the basics for efficient and accurate algorithms and software are studied. The teaching has a large volume as courses in programming technology and computer science are given for most civil engineering programs at KTH.

Subject Description

Computer science is the methodology for the construction of software, which includes both theoretical and engineering skills for developing products and systems based on computers.


The position consists mainly of teaching in primarily programming technology and basic computer science, course leadership, course administration, coordination of degree projects and supervision of projects. The teaching takes place in both Swedish and English. The duties also include actively participating in the subject didactic activities.


Qualified to be employed as assistant professor is the one who has

  • Graduated from basic college education in the subject area of ​​employment or have equivalent competence;
  • Professional skills that are important with regard to the subject content of the employment and the duties to be included in the employment, and
  • Demonstrated educational skill.

Assessment criteria

It is of the utmost importance that the applicant has

  • Documented pedagogical skill which includes experience of course leadership, including planning, course development, teaching and follow-up, for courses in programming technology and computer science. The assessment of the pedagogical skill should also refer to the person's ability to develop as a teacher in the long term
  • Documented subject-related skill relevant to the content of the employment
  • Administrative skills
  • Good ability to teach in Swedish

It is of the utmost importance that the applicant has

  • Documented professional skill relevant to the content of the employment
  • College pedagogical education
  • Experience of renewal projects in educational development in collaboration with other teachers
  • Good ability to teach in English

It is also important that the applicant has

  • Skills regarding development work in the field
  • Professional experience outside the university, of which at least four years in a qualified position related to the subject area concerned
  • Ability to interact with the surrounding community
  • Experience from own research in the subject area
  • Ability to develop and manage operations and staff, as well as collaboration. This includes having knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.
