Curtin University and Optus Business
Curtin University and Optus Business have recently formed an alliance to collaborate in research in the Artificial Intelligence field. The focus of the collaboration will be in the impact of artificial intelligence on regional telecommunications, higher education and the urban environment. 
The five-year alliance will develop an artificial intelligence research group embedded in the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences at Curtin University, with strong links to the Curtin Institute for Computation. The alliance will leverage synergies between Curtin’s excellent research, teaching and learning capabilities, and Optus’ market-leading technology and 5G infrastructure capabilities.

Your new role
As an Optus Fellow in Machine Learning / Robotics / IoT, you will be part of a dynamic team of Optus Researchers, and HDR students focusing on applying artificial intelligence and 5G technologies in the key areas identified with Optus and its preferred partners. 
Your role is to contribute in building algorithms, models and large scale systems that solve problems including but not limited to telco management, transportation, urban planning, real time crowd management, retail intelligence, health informatics, industry 4.0 etc. using telco and other data sources.

You will also:
  • Have access to real-world data from and fully engaged with both Optus and Optus preferred partners, thus making the real impact
  • Lead in teaching as a course convenor at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; this will equip you with the experience required for tenured/continuing academic positions
  • Collaborate with academics from Innovation Central Perth (ICP), ARC Training Centre for Transforming Maintenance through Data Science (ITTC) to apply National and Competitive grants as project leader.
  • Based on Perth but also work at one of the Curtin Campus overseas and/or carry out research for a period of time at the Centre's partner groups around the world (Singapore, Germany, China) and Australia (Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane)
You will bring to this role
  • Doctoral qualification in computer science, electrical engineering, or relevant discipline to this position.
  • Proven record of world-leading research, such as publication in top journals and/or contribution to internationally visible research projects.
  • Evidence of quality and impact of research outputs/creative works including journal ranking, citation indices, patents awarded, reputation and standing of publishing house or other outlets, independent review from distinguished scholars or critics, or equivalent esteem measures as appropriate to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Commitment to excellence in education and research supervision.
