The role

Based in the world leading Aeroacoustics and Aerodynamics research team within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol, this is an exciting opportunity to join a team developing state-of-the-art theoretical and experimental methods to investigate the aerodynamic and noise generation from airfoils at high angles of attack.

The aeroacoustic measurements will be carried out in the new, large-scale aeroacoustics facility at the University of Bristol. The project is funded by EPSRC and is a collaboration with partners from the University of Southampton, GE-Dowty and Embraer.

What will you be doing?

  • You will investigate noise generation from airfoils and be responsible for the aerodynamic and acoustic measurements in the aeroacoustics facility.
  • You will develop new modeling and experimental tools and be responsible for data collection and management of noise and flow databases.
  • You will work in close collaboration with both industrial and academic partners.
  • You will share data and research findings and attend review meetings to present your results.

You should apply if

  • You have a PhD (or with equivalent experience) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physic or Mathematics or a related discipline or you have a first degree in one of the afore-mentioned subjects and equivalent experience in a relevant role in industry.
  • You have a sound knowledge of acoustics.
  • You have practical experience of lab-based experiments.
  • You have experience of developing new modeling and experimental tools.
  • You have experience of data collection and organization in a research setting.
  • You have proven problem-solving experience and ability to find creative solutions to complex problems.
  • You are excited about working in a multi-disciplinary team.
