Postdoctoral researcher in integrated circuit design for edge AI accelerators

What you will do

We all witness the rapid developments of applications such as face or object recognition, powered by the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI). Yet, a massive challenge is to embed these applications onto our portable devices, as they do not have large computing resources available.

One way forward is the design of dedicated hardware accelerators, aimed to run AI algorithms with accuracy and energy efficiency. We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to tackle this challenge in the context of an industrial collaboration.

In this position, you will design Integrated Circuit (IC) accelerators for several artificial intelligence applications. You will develop novel design ideas, and coordinate a team of several doctoral students, in a team at the interface between artificial intelligence algorithms and circuit design.

You will work in a multidisciplinary network, in close collaboration with other researchers, to grow, design and promote your ideas with full-custom ICs.

Competitive salary and contract terms. The starting gross salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately 3600 € to 3800 € / month, depending on your experience. Salary can increase with responsibilities and performance over time. Duration of the contract can be negotiated.

Who you are

  • You have a Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, with experience in Integrated Circuit (IC) design.
  • You just obtained your diploma, or you already gained some design experience in industry.
  • You are passionate about IC design for artificial intelligence and you are willing to work in a multi-disciplinary field.
  • You are open-minded for new research, eager to learn more and fit to teamwork.
  • You have already some tape out experience, possibly with large Systems-on-chip. Specifically, experience in sub-65nm CMOS technologies is a strong asset.

Who we are

The Electronic Circuit Design (ECD) unit of the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at the School of Electrical Engineering has researched RF, analog, and digital integrated circuits already close to thirty years with outstanding outcomes and we have a strong network of collaborators and funding.

The ECD unit has three professors (Jussi Ryynänen, Kari Halonen and Martin Andraud), three senior researchers and about 20 doctoral candidates and research assistants.
