Job Description

OsloMet is looking for candidates to join the OsloMet's Artificial Intelligence Lab and the Nordic Center for Sustainable and Trustworthy AI Research (NordSTAR)

OsloMet Artificial Intelligence Lab (AI Lab) is a joint research center for OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University and SimulaMet. It administrrers research and innovation projects in artificial intelligence, both applied and basic research, including theory and the use of machine learning in different areas. NordSTAR is part of the AI ​​Lab and was recently elected as one of five excellent academic environments at OsloMet.

Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship funding program.

We hereby invite top-class researchers of any nationality, who have obtained a PhD degree and up to eight years of research experience after PhD, to apply for an EU-funded Marie Skłodowska Curie Action Postdoctoral Fellowship (call MSCA-PF-2021) to conduct research at OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University for a period of two years.

Area of ​​research

Quantum AI (Sergiy Denysov,

We focus on the computational aspects of AI tools within the context of quantum computing and try to understand how the expected computational power of the latter can boost the efficiency of AI.

We also aim at investigating the impact of quantum computing on new research trends in AI, especially on such topics as explainability and trustworthiness. We are looking for researchers enthusiastic about exploring the interface of quantum computing and AI.

Stochastic Modeling and Complex Systems (Pedro Lind,

We focus on developing tools and methods to extract information from data sets of complex systems. We aim at deriving the statistical and mathematical laws governing the evolution and structure of complex systems.

We have already established important applications in wind energy, climate, power grids, stock markets and intelligent health. We are looking for researchers with ideas at the cutting-edge of AI and applied mathematics research and new applications of Stochastic Data Analytics and Complex Systems Modeling.

Machine Intelligence and Holistic Systems (Michael Riegler,

Our goal is to develop novel methodologies and algorithms for machine learning and data mining and employ them to address challenging problems in high-impact applications.

We seek to create and apply novel methods to provide new insights in a wide variety of applications ranging from biomedical signals and image analysis, systems biology to climate and communication networks, while contributing to the foundations of the scientific field. We are looking for researchers with ground-breaking proposals in statistical learning; data mining with a focus on the matrix and tensor factorization; and deep learning applications.

Reinforcement Learning and Brain Connectivity Data Analysis (Anis Yazidi,

Our focus is reinforcement learning and deep reinforcement learning applied to real-time systems. Our aim is to develop algorithms that are able to learn policies to maximize returns while ensuring safety.

We also develop and apply novel methods for signal processing and time-series analysis to analyze brain connectivity and perform prognosis and diagnostics of brain disorders. To that end, we also leverage deep graph neural networks. We are looking for researchers knowledgeable in computational neuroscience and / or reinforcement learning.

Computational Intelligence and Learning Systems (Jianhua Zhang,

We conduct cross-disciplinary R&D in the fields of AI and neurocomputing. We carry out research on Computational Intelligence and machine learning theoryand algorithms with real world modeling, pattern recognition, decision support and control applications. We focus on two application areas -Neuroergonomics and Brain-Machine Interaction (BMI). One current research is towards functional studying brain dynamics of operator / cognitive state and mental workload (stress) in the field of transportation. We also develop advanced AI and machine learning algorithms for brain and biomedical data analysis for BMI and affective computing (emotion recognition).

Tasks and responsibilities

Successful candidates will be supervised by the Professor leading the chosen research area. The successful applicant will primarily work on the Marie Curie funded project, integrated in the OsloMet AI Lab and / or NordSTAR, taking part in regular meetings and seminars. In agreement with the candidate, he / she may also be included in other ongoing projects and / or in proposal development processes with the OsloMet AI Lab.

Expected qualification of candidates

Candidates must have successfully defended his / her PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Quantum Computing, Statistical / Machine Learning or similar subjects as the minimum requirement.

We are primarily looking for experienced postdoctoral researchers, who wish to use this period as an opportunity to further develop their research and to develop longer term research collaborations with OsloMet and other institutions conducting research in the field. The candidates must be eligible for a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (PhD successfully defended and a maximum of 8 years full-time equivalent experience in research and cannot exceed 12 month of prior stay in Norway).

With this call for Expression of Interest, we invite Postdoctoral Researchers to apply; they must submit their CV, including publications list and a one-page description of the research project idea, that together with a virtual interview will be the basis for assessing and selecting two candidates with whom we will collaborate for developing competitive MSCA-PF grant applications .

Assessment and selection of candidates

Candidates will be pre-selected based on an internal evaluation and the availability of suitable supervision. A maximum of five candidates will be invited for a virtual interview and a maximum of two candidates will be invited to submit a proposal to the EU funded MSCA-PF program.

In this first phase, the cooperation will be carried out remotely, with regular communication via email and online meeting platforms. If applicants are successful in their MSCA grant application, the place of work will be at the OsloMet main campus, located in the center of Oslo.

Temporary project positions

The OsloMet AI Lab has set aside funding for two temporary positions as Researcher / Assistant Researcher to prepare a competitive application for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship program.

Selected candidates will be hired for a 6-month temporary administrative position to prepare a successful MSCA application and to participate in some of the ongoing research activities in the AI ​​Lab candidates. Selected candidates for the project position must be exptected to start as soon as possible in order to prepare for the September 15th MSCA-PF program application deadline.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, Researcher position code 1108 pay grade 51-66 a NOK 458 900-597 000 annually or position code 1109 pay grade 60-74 a NOK 535 200-694 400 annually.
