The University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for up to two full-time tenure stream positions in the area of robotics engineering. The appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor,
Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in robotics engineering or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths . Preference will be given to those applicants whose work is motivated by aerospace applications. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.
Applicants must have, or be eligible for, registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. This is important as faculty members teaching design courses to undergraduate students must be Professional Engineers for program accreditation as set out by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. About the Institute for Aerospace Studies
UTIAS is an institute within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. It has a long tradition of excellence in Aerospace and Robotics Engineering education and research. UTIAS is responsible for much of the undergraduate teaching in the Aerospace and Robotics Majors of the Engineering Science program. UTIAS is also home to graduate programs leading to the degrees of M.Eng., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D., and has strong connections (through its faculty members) with the Canadian aerospace industry including Bombardier Aerospace, Pratt and Whitney Canada, and MDA. About the Robotics Institute
The robotics faculty at UTIAS are participating members in a UofT-wide initiative called the UofT Robotics Institute (RI), which was founded in 2019.
The RI aims to bring together faculty and students from across UofT with a common interest in robotics for events, conducting joint research projects, sharing teaching resources, connecting with the robotics industry, and outreach.
